I was standing by a corner of the road awaiting any oncoming tricycle (keke) to halt.
"Mummy will kill me today. How did I forget to look at my wristwatch?", I wondered aloud as I searched my head for any sugar coated excuse to give her for staying out so late.
"Hello". Excuse me", a strong and smooth voice behind me said.
I ignored the voice.
Hello, please excuse me".The voice repeated and seemed to draw closer.
I turned around. My eyes couldn't believe who I saw so I quickly looked away.
"I'm sorry to bother you but I couldn't help but notice you alot in there". The voice called again.
It was Kiss Danel. Yes, Kiss Daniel. The celebrity. The Woju crooner. My all time celebrity crush. He was the one seeking my attention. Wonders shall never end. Kiss was the guest artiste at the event I had just attended at African cultural centre, Kano.Throughout the event, I noticed he kept looking at me or maybe in my direction but I waded the thought off , remembering how as I child, I always thought the potrait of Jesus was staring at me. That thought kept me from committing alot of evil, anyways.
Back to my story. There were alot of people in the hall so why would Kiss Daniel, a whole Kiss Daniel take special interest in me. I was wearing a faded top and a more faded denims. And my stubborn hair was unbraided and roughly packed together.
"Be nice", my inner self said to my outer self. I smiled and agreed.
"I like your sincere smiles and your innocence. I'll like to know you better", Kiss continued.
Shuo...sincere smiles. Innocence. God na so you take bless me. I was overwhelmed. See, Kiss has been my celebrity crush ever since he sang Woju. To have him walk up to me and express how much he liked me was too much.
"I'm in a haste", I said regaining my composure. Afterall UNEC girls no dey fall hands.
Ok. What's your pretty name?
"Justina", I answered.
"Can I call you Jay?"
"Sure"
Can I have your phone number so I can call you someother time since you are in a haste?
"Ofcourse", I said and called out my number for him.
A keke pulled up almost immediately, so I joined.
My mum was asleep when I got home. She woke up as soon as I entered the house, welcomed me nicely and asked how the event went. She even gave me directions on how to collect my dinner and then went back to sleep.Hmmm...Luck was truly on my side.
True enough, I got a call from Kiss the following evening. He wanted to know if I was busy. I mumbled something to my mum and hurried out. We drove to Cool fm Kano, where his sister was an On Air Presenter. His sister liked me immediately and even sent a shout out to me on her show that evening. We had a really fun time. The next evening and every evening throughout out that week, we hung out. Kiss and I got to know each other better. We loved almost the same things; books, writing, colour, and ofcourse, music. Kiss was a gentleman throughout.
That weekend, he left for Lagos and promised to keep in touch. He was true to his word. We chatted often and talked on phone all day except when he was busy. I was hardly ever busy myself since I was home for the compulsory vacation (as part of our punishment by the school administration following a violent protest students embarked on) that my school has now become known for.
On Wedneday, that week, Kiss called to inform me he had sent booked a flight in my name. He wanted me to attend a very important function with him in Lagos. One which alot of celebrities were likely to grace. He wanted me to be there with him.
I was super excited. Lagos! Aeroplane! I kept screaming.
I told my mum about the trip. Although she wasn't in support of it, she agreed after much persuasion from my brother and sister.
The flight was a heavenly experience. We arrived Murtala Muhammed International Aiport, Lagos about 3pm.
Kiss Daniel called to say he was busy and couldn't meet me at the airport. He sent his personal driver instead. The driver met me as I approached the arrivals curb of the airport. He looked at a picture of me on his phone and back at me to confirm I was the same person. He then collected my luggage and walked me to the car.I happily followed.
"Where is the car key?", he asked as soon as we reached the car.
"The what?
"The key".
"Which key? I'm not with any key". I answered perplexed.
"Joor Joor, give me your toilet key before I pooh on myself. It was my next door neighbour, Chika shaking me out of dreamland.
I jolted into reality.
"If you like, keep sleeping and talking to yourself. We have Microbiology with Prof by 4pm".
I rubbed my hands over my face. Oh my God! This girl sef!. Kai! Take the key from that tray"
Malaria is bad oo.

To be honest you did well to get my attention, but when I saw kiss Daniel, I knew it would end up being a dream or something close to it. So next time, don't allow your readers guess how your stories would end. Take them on a journey of no return. Above all, you did a good work. It's like you have gotten a fan.
ReplyDeleteThanks a bunch
ReplyDeleteExcuse me 1s commenter, that piece was awesome. The story line was superb. I and my guys who read it never guessed what happened at last, though someone made an insinuation with an envious intuition. You could guess how it will end because you belittled the TEENA... Dear, i loved it, the suspence. it was captivating.
