The Prayer House or the Hospital?

Many Nigerians suffer and die early because they lack awareness of their medical conditions. Even when they do, they vehemently reject  the truth and refuse to get medical help.

My boss shared the story of how the father of a friend of his, lost his leg due  to ignorance and foolishness. According to him, she complained to him that her father's leg kept swelling up for  over a long time.
The man also developed foot ulcer. My boss(a Medical Laboratory Scientist),  suspected the old man had diabetic foot ulcer and encouraged the family to go to hospital and seek medical help.

Instead of heeding to his professional advice, the family concluded their father had been inflicted with a disease (called achi eri in Igbo..pardon my spelling please) by wicked kinsmen so they resorted to prayer houses for nearly a year. During that period, the ulcer  kept spreading until the entire foot became infected and now had an unbearable stench, it was at this point that they decided to seek medical help. The stench was so bad that the hospital almost refused giving the old man a bed for fear of pollution of the environment and other patients.
When the man's fasting blood sugar was checked, it was more than  580mg/dl. He was actually and seriously diabetic and that was the reason for the foot ulcer. Ignorance pushed the family to prayer houses instead of the hospital. Think about how much the spiritualist must have extracted from the ignorant family.

Within 18 hours of his admission into the hospital, from his foot up to his shin was amputated. That was the only solution.

If my boss' friend had heeded to his advice and sought for medical help, who knows? The leg might just have been saved.

I know of a young lady who died few days after the family had announced to the world and thrown a huge feast to celebrate their daughter's healing from a Chronic Renal (kidney) disease by a prophet. This family took the poor young lady from the hospital where she was receiving treatment and left her for months at the mercy of a 'healer' who knew nothing about the kidneys and how they work. She died.

Other instances abound.

If you know any sick person currently dwelling and believing in the healing from prayer houses, do tell him/her to wake up and go see a doctor.
Divine healing exists and I believe in it a lot but I  reject the idea of putting a sick person through series of fasting and praying with intermittent whippings all in the name of spiritual healing.

What you should pray for is that God hastens and perfects  your healing or that He does a miracle but all this should be after you have sought medical treatment.

I have seen God perform unbelievable miracles. He has not stopped.

ONE NIGHT

They met at a bar Him a fine, reserved  young man Her a bubbly young woman Once she set her eyes on him She knew she wanted him So she went and she sat and they talked About life, love, family,  work, About  Everything They talked their souls away Late into the night It felt like they were old friends They bonded And when they raised their heads It was midnight And they were alone 'Let's go to your place' she suggested She could not bear to spend a second without him "Oh No! Lagos Na Wa : 5

I write this with my face covered. Please don't laugh at me. Remember Lagos Na Wa Episode 1 where I shared the tale of how I almost was taken to  Seme border?  If you didn't read it, go through my wall. It is some where there. So after the Lagos tour,  my rectum was dilated and ready to spill meaning I was pressed. I wanted to poop. Jesu! The urge was so strong and as soon as the bus entered the Island,  it intensified. I carried my bum bum with the poo ready to drop and sat in the bus. I got to Elegushi  bus stop,  alighted. A man I asked for directions to pointed at ahead of him and said that was the gate of the  Estate I was looking for. I ignored the Okada men at the bus stop and started trekking because I was scared of what the speed and bumps would do. That turned out to be a bad decision. Left,  right,  right and left. No gate insight. I convinced myself that I could do it. God knows I couldn't. My ancestors were just la...

The Error of 'Don't you Know you are a Girl? '

Part 1 Dear Society, When you want to correct a female going wrong, especially a child,  do not remind her that she is a girl. Do not tell her to stop because she is a girl. Tell her to stop and change because her actions are wrong. When she wears a skirt and sits with her legs wide open,  tell her to close them because it is wrong to sit with your undies exposed. When she talks arrogantly,  correct her because it is wrong to speak that way. Don't tell her to be polite because girls should be. Sensible humans are polite. Politeness is not gender specific. When she dresses indecently,  correct the wrongness of the dressing. Don't make it about her gender. Decency doesn't apply to one gender. When she is unable to cook at 18, remind her that it is only reasonable for an adult to be capable of making food for his/her survival. No gender needs the skill more. When she rides her car in a rough manner,  remind her that wrong driving has sent many to their...
