THE CIRCLE (Episode 5- THE MEETING)

Wednesday morning
I wake up to see my battery at 10%. It didn't charge all night. I try to connect the charger again. Nothing! I use my roommate's charger. Nothing still!
I'm sad. The charging port issue is back.
Extra money and stress.

"Immunology class holds by 10am" Johnson posts on whatsapp.
The lecture is as boring as ever. I yawn over 10 times.

I go to the ATM at the bus stop to withdraw. When it gets to my turn, the machine stops dispensing cash.

I'm having a bad day.

2pm
I pass through ogbete main market on my way to repair my phone.

"Buy orange..Buy orange", a little girl calls. She should be between 10-12years of age
her voice is so tiny, yet so sharp.. It pierces through my ears.
I turn around.
She's wearing a royal blue dress (My favorite color). She's bent over peeling some more oranges.

"My dear, how much are your oranges?"

"4 for fifty naira but I'll give you five because I like you".
She stands up to full length
oh my goodness!!!
She's wearing my exact royal blue dress , only a smaller size.
I'm dumbfounded and yes, angry!
"My dear, your dress is nice o. Who bought it for you?"

"My sister".

"Where?,"

"That railway line. Evening market".

"Do you know how much she bought it?"

"Ehmmm....250 naira".
"What!!!"
"She is the one that bought this slippers....."

"Its fine. Give me 100 naira worth of oranges".

"Ok ma. Should I cut it for you?"

"No...don't worry"
I'm heartbroken
#9,000!!!
I'm supposed to leave for the village on Sunday. Mum is coming for an event.
I pack my clothes and fix the blue dress among the clothes to take home.
I'm giving it to my 12year old cousin.
I can't deal.

I'm having a very bad day.

I join the next keke and head back to school.

4pm
My head aches badly.
Nnenna Asogwa is at Oga Serg's place.
"JayTee" She hails me.
"Nne whatsup?
I'm good.
We shake hands.

"Are you ok? Your eyes look dull" she tells me.
"I have a headache".

"Oh! Sorry. Go and rest o. You are not going for MCB class".

"No. I went to repair my phone. Charging port wahala.

"Again?" Nne knows about my trouble with charging port.

"Yes"
I'm on my way already. I'm so tired. I could faint.

"Have you repaired it?"

"Yes" Nne copy well o. I might come for your note.

"Ok. JayTee sorry o. Bye bye".

"Bye". I reply from a distance.
My head aches.

I cannot find the keys to my room.
Oh no!!! The devil woke up on my bed this morning.
I dial Ada's number more than five times. Ada is my other roommate.
Finally she picks up.

"Hello Jor Jor. I'm in church. Anything?"

"Ada, I think I left my keys in the room".

"Eeyaa" Check behind my stove. I didn't go out with mime.

I shudder with relief. From under my breath, I mutter "thank you Jesus".

I hit my bed immediately.

5:30pm
My phone rings.  The number isn't saved on my phone. I ignore the call.
The caller isn't deterred. My phone rings two more times.
"Hello" I say. I'm a little sleepy.
"Hello, is this Justina? We met at a wedding last Saturday. My name is....."
Its celebrity crush. I'm excited.
I jump up immediately. "Oh my God! Oh my God!!"
Nwabueze must hear this. Amaka C.U where are you oo.
Crush is in town and wants us to hang out by 7pm if I'm free.

Ofcourse I'm free . I whisper to myself.
But I reply.."Ehmm.. Let me confirm first. I'll call you back in some minutes.

15 minutes later, I call crush back.
I'm free by 7pm.
This is happening!!

7pm
I'm waiting by my phone.
7:02pm
My phone rings. Its Crush.
He is on his way. He is close to school already.

7:12pm
Crush is downstairs

Crush isn't driving. He's sitting behind. The glass of Crush's car is  tinted.
Crush is a celebrity. He doesn't want to cause a scene with his presence.

Crush opens the door from inside.

I hop in.

I'm having a good night after all.

GLOBACOM SHUTS UNEC DOWN WITH TIMAYA, MI AND RUNTOWN, DJNEPTUNE AND DJLAMBO

Last night is a night that will not be forgotten in  hurry at the  University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus as Globacom ended its week long mouth watering Campus Data Bundle campaign tagged 'Glo campus storm' with an enveloping event which brought down A list artistes such as Timaya, MI and Runtown to the white house of the prestigious institution. Yours truly was there and brings you reports! The event was slated to start by 4pm although it later started much later that night due to problems with the generator which was to be used to power the auditorium and other equipments for the event. Many students left for emergency night class in the few opened classes like Abuja auditorium and Coscharis building. Luck however was on the side of the patient students who were already murmuring that the show was a scam, when PHCN restored power supply around 11pm. Immediately the power was restored, all the students including those who left for till day break studying returned and the a...

CRUSH ISSUES

I was standing by a corner of the road awaiting any oncoming tricycle (keke) to halt. "Mummy will kill me today. How did I forget to look at my wristwatch?", I wondered aloud as I searched my head for any sugar coated excuse to give her for staying out so late. "Hello". Excuse me", a strong and smooth voice behind me said. I ignored the voice. Hello, please excuse me".The voice repeated and seemed to draw closer. I turned around. My eyes couldn't believe who I saw so I quickly looked away. "I'm sorry to bother you but I couldn't help but notice you alot in there". The voice called again. It was Kiss Danel. Yes, Kiss Daniel. The celebrity. The Woju crooner. My all time celebrity crush. He was the one seeking my attention. Wonders shall never end.  Kiss was the guest artiste at the event I had just attended at African cultural centre, Kano.Throughout the event, I noticed he kept looking at me or maybe in my direction but I wade...

The Error of 'Don't you Know you are a Girl? '

Part 1 Dear Society, When you want to correct a female going wrong, especially a child,  do not remind her that she is a girl. Do not tell her to stop because she is a girl. Tell her to stop and change because her actions are wrong. When she wears a skirt and sits with her legs wide open,  tell her to close them because it is wrong to sit with your undies exposed. When she talks arrogantly,  correct her because it is wrong to speak that way. Don't tell her to be polite because girls should be. Sensible humans are polite. Politeness is not gender specific. When she dresses indecently,  correct the wrongness of the dressing. Don't make it about her gender. Decency doesn't apply to one gender. When she is unable to cook at 18, remind her that it is only reasonable for an adult to be capable of making food for his/her survival. No gender needs the skill more. When she rides her car in a rough manner,  remind her that wrong driving has sent many to their...
